I'm really not sure on that, but I wouldn't take any chances in being delayed. Why not call you airline and ask. They would be best to ask. Upvote 0. Premium Member. If items were confiscated that were on the list of "acceptable" materials, then the screener made a mistake. Possibly your brother traveled under the "old" list before it was revised to not prohibited those items. I do not see anything wrong with a coat hanger. You can't do any more damage with a hanger than you can with a pencil. I have never heard of coat hangers being confinscated and they are not prohibited. Maria New Member. Many items that were on the "unacceptable" list just a few months ago are now acceptable. I have never heard of coat hangers being confinscated and they are not prohibited by the FAA.
Dwarful Well-Known Member. Well, we just got back late last night and things at Orlando were alot different than things in StLouis. In St. Louis I had to take a drink out of my 2 yr olds sippy cup, I had to open up film canisters, take of our shoes with five kids that was loads of fun! In Orlando we had to empty pockets and go through. No one had to drink out of thier resort cups and I didnt have to drink out of the sippy cup. When I asked the searchers in charge they told me that it was up to the individuals what they wanted to do.
So I would say, skip the wire hangers, take plastic or grab some extras from housekeeping. I took my own plastic for the toddlers because all she wears are the little cotton summer dresses. Someone at Orlando asked to have a Disney Cruise ID bracelet snipped off of their toddler and they were told that no one had scissors or sharp objects beyond security not even airport workers!

This can really help to stop a wedding dress or a good suit from getting into a wrinkled mess so pack coat hangers so you can potentially hang your special garment. Delta also sometimes allows people to use hang clothes during their flight.
Again, it depends if there is free space or not. United have them but sometimes can be snarky about regular muggles using them. Hanging jackets is sometimes a service reserved for only 1st class passengers. Coat hangers are allowed in hand luggage unless they are exceptionally heavy and dangerous looking.
I am unaware of any aviation authority worldwide that bans clothes hangers in carry on baggage. So you should be good for international travel too! Do you have any tips about how to pack hangers in your carry on luggage?

I suppose you could get a plastic one to be safe? Joined Dec 12, Messages 1, I was thinking plastic but the dress is heavy, and big. I am feeling nervous about having it in cargo though. Joined Aug 14, Messages 23, I've carried garment bags on and they have metal hanger-thingies, and I've never had an issue.. FI says he has done that too and looked at me like I was crazy.
I just figured I'd be on the safe side.. But now the dress has to go in a suitcase and be checked! Click to expand Joined Dec 14, Messages 19, I carried mine. It was my carry on, and I had about 4 other items in there--all on separate hangers--metal dry cleaner ones for everything but the dress, and I had no issues. It was just in a big white dress bag--which got a lot of "Congratulations!
Couldn't you just do that? On the plane I put it in an overhead bin and everything was fine when I got there. Joined Apr 15, Messages Yssie said:.
